Man jumps in front of Line 1 subway train

An unidentified man threw himself in front of a subway train at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Station in Seoul on Wednesday.

According to an eyewitness the man jumped in front of an incoming train at the station in Imun-dong at 10:55 a.m.  

An official at the station said that he died despite being moved to a nearby hospital after the collision. CCTV images showed him pacing the platform immediately before the incident, the official added.

The victim was initially reported as an elderly woman, but the official confirmed it was a man. 

The train was delayed for about 25 minutes after the incident. 

The train's operation was resumed as of 11: 29 a.m., according to Korea's state-run railway operator KORAIL.

1호선 외대역서 투신자살 사건

서울 지하철 1호선 외대역에서 9일 오전 10시 55분경에 50대로 추정되는 남성이 선로에 뛰어들어 숨졌다.

목격자에 따르면 한 남성이 역사로 진입하던 구로행 열차에 뛰어들었다고 한다. 

외대역의 한 직원은 이 남성은 열차가 들어오기 전부터 플랫폼 가장자리에서 서성이다가 열차 앞에 뛰어들었다고 증언했다.

이 남성은 병원으로 이송되었으나 끝내 숨졌다.

코레일 측이 밝힌 바에 따르면, 이 사고로 인해 열차 운행이 25여분 가량 지연되었으나 11시 29분에 조치가 완료되어 운행이 재개되었다고 한다.

경찰은 이 남성의 신원을 확인하는 한편, CCTV와 목격자 진술을 토대로 사고 경위를 파악하고 있다. (코리아헤럴드 윤민식/김보라)
