페루에서 한 여성이 TV 퀴즈쇼에서 자신의 과거를 고백했다가 남자친구에게 살해당하는 사건이 일어났다.

현지 언론 보도에 따르면 브라이언 로메로 레이바는 자신의 여자친구 루스 탈리아 사야즈 (19) 씨를 살해하고 지난 주말, 에콰도르로 도주하려던 도중 체포되었다 한다.

레이바는 퀴즈쇼를 통해 자신의 여자친구가 과거 나이트클럽에서 일한 적이 있으며 매춘경험도 있다는 것을 알게 된 후 분노해 이와 같은 일을 저질렀다.

문제의 퀴즈쇼는 현재 페루에서 엄청난 인기를 끌고 있는 토요 프로그램 ‘엘 발로 드 라 베르다드 (진실의 가치)’로서 출연자들은 개인적인 질문에 대한 답변을 하는 대가로 거액을 받게 된다. 21가지 질문에 모두 답한 출연자는 5만 솔 (한화 약 2천1백만원)을 받을 수 있다.

이 프로그램에 지난 7월에 출연한 사야즈 씨는 바로 옆에 놓인 소파에 앉은 자신의 부모님과 남자친구가 지켜보는 가운데 자신이 나이트클럽에서 댄서로 일했다는 것과 성적인 행위에 대한 대가로 돈을 받은 적이 있다는 것을 고백했다.

엘 발로 드 라 베르다드는 일반인들의 사생활을 파헤치는 방식 때문에 논란이 끊이지 않고 있는데, 과거 콜롬비어에서는 이 프로그램이 방영되었다가 출연자가 자신의 남편을 살해하기 위해 청부 살인자를 고용한 것과 마약을 밀수한 것을 고백하는 바람에 폐지되기도 했다.

A Peruvian woman was drugged and killed by her boyfriend after revealing on a live TV show that she had been a nightclub dancer and prostitute, local media reported.

The victim, 19-year-old Ruth Thalia Sayas, was murdered by her boyfriend Bryan Romero Leiva, who was outraged to learn the stunning truth that she made public on TV show “El Valor De La Verdad” (The value of the truth) in July.

Leiva was arrested last weekend while attempting to flee to Ecuador, and has confessed to the killing.

The controversial yet popular show requires contestants to honestly answer intimate questions in exchange for cash. The maximum prize for answering 21 questions is 50,000 soles ($19,200).

During the show, she admitted that she worked as a dancer at a nightclub and she had received money in exchange for sexual favors while her parents and boyfriend were watching from a nearby sofa.
