A Korean international student was taken into custody by the Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency on Thursday for an international crime.

The 21-year-old woman, identified only by her surname Noh, was allegedly paid by a student to share her answers by sending the student snapped photos of her TOEIC and TEPS tests with her smartphone.

Noh placed an ad online from August 2011 to June 2012 stating that she would take the TOEIC/TEPS for paying customers, the police said. She kept her end of the bargain by snapping photos of her answers and sending them to her clients. For each test, she received $2000 to $3000, the police said. It is suspected that she earned around $27,000 in total.

The police said Noh replaced photos of her clients on their driver’s licenses with her own to take their test for them three different times.

Noh’s motive was reportedly to earn the tuition and living costs for the prestigious university she attends because her father’s business failed.

Besides Noh, three others who offered the same services as Noh and 37 clients who took part in these transactions were booked without detention.

미국의 한 명문대학교에 재학 중인 한국인 유학생이 학비를 벌려고 TOEICㆍTEPS 대리시험을 치다 경찰에 붙잡혔다.

경기지방경찰청 국제범죄수사대는 23일 영어시험장에서 자신이 푼 답안을 스마트폰으로 전송해주고 돈을 받은 혐의(업무방해 등)로 유학생 노모(21ㆍ여)씨를 불구속 입건했다.

노씨는 지난해 8월부터 올 6월까지 한 포털사이트 구인 카페 게시판에 `TOEICㆍTEPS 대리시험 봐드려요'라는 광고 글을 게시한 후 이를 보고 연락한 사람에게 스마트폰으로 촬영한 답안을 전송하는 수법으로 건당 200~300만원씩 모두 2천700여만원을 받은 혐의를 받고 있다.

노씨는 의뢰자의 운전면허증을 자기 사진으로 바꿔치기해 세차례 대리시험을 본 것으로도 확인됐다.

경찰에서 노씨는 "아버지 사업이 망해 직접 학비와 생활비를 마련해야 했다"고 범행동기를 밝혔다.

이밖에 경찰은 노씨가 사람을 모집했던 인터넷 게시판에서 같은 수법으로 대리시험을 본 유학생 심모(25)씨 등 3명과 의뢰자 이모(25)씨 등 37명도 불구속 입건했다.
