SANTA CLARA, California, -- South Korean swimmer Park Tae-hwan won the 200-meter freestyle event at the Santa Clara International Grand Prix Saturday, raising his golds at the event to four and brightening his outlook for the upcoming London Olympics.

   Park, who won the 2008 Olympic gold in the 400-meter freestyle and a silver in the 200-meter freestyle, finished in a time of 1:46:88 in the men's 200-meter freestyle event at the U.S. grand prix under way in Santa Clara, Calif.

   On the first two days of the Santa Clara grand prix, Park had won the 800-meter, 100-meter and 400-meter freestyle events.

   The time for the 100-meter race does not qualify him to participate in the Olympics 100-meter event, but Park said he used the race to check his pace for the 200-meter competition.

   With the London Olympics less than two months away, Park's successive wins at the U.S. grand prix have further brightened his outlook for another Olympic gold medal, sports officials and experts say.

   Park will briefly return to Seoul before completing his last-stage training in Australia and heading to London via France, they said. (Yonhap)

박태환, 자유형 200ｍ도 제패…4관왕!



한국 수영의 간판인  박태환(23·SK텔레콤)이 샌타클래라 국제그랑프리대회 남자 자유형 200ｍ에서도  우승 하며 대회 4관왕에 올랐다.

박태환은 2일 오후(현지시간) 미국 캘리포니아 샌타클래라 조지 F. 헤인즈 국제 수영센터에서 열린 대회 셋째 날 남자 자유형 200ｍ 경기에 출전해 1분46초88로  우 승했다.

박태환은 첫날 자유형 800ｍ, 둘째 날 10ｍ, 400ｍ에 이어 200ｍ에서도  우승함 에 따라 대회 4관왕에 올랐다. 

박태환은 이로써 런던 올림픽을 2개월도 남겨놓지 않은 상황에서 실전감각을 익 히고 컨디션을 점검하기 위해 참가한 이 대회를 성공적으로 마무리하면서 런던 올림 픽에서의 금빛 전망을 밝게 했다.

앞서 박태환은 지난주 캐나다 밴쿠버 UBC 아쿠아틱센터에서 열린 멜제이젝 주니 어 인터내셔널수영대회에서도 자유형 200ｍ와 400ｍ에서 모두 1위를 차지하며 2관왕 에 오른 바 있다.

박태환은 잠시 귀국했다고 호주에서 마무리 훈련을 통해 컨디션을 끌어올린 뒤 프랑스 몽펠리에를 거쳐 런던에 입성할 계획이다.

이날 예선 1위의 성적으로 5번 레인을 배정받은 박태환은 처음부터 월등한 기량 으로 앞서나가 여유 있게 1위로 레이스를 마쳤다.

박태환은 경기를 마친 후 취재진에게 "대체로 대회를 잘 마무리한 것 같다"며 "

훈련과정이 특별히 달라지지는 않겠지만 앞으로 (런던) 올림픽이 두 달 밖에 남지 않았기 때문에 레이스 운영에 집중하게 될 것"이라고 말했다.

그는 이어 "스타트는 많이 좋아졌지만 턴은 아직 부족한 점이 있어서 앞으로 남 은 기간 이 부분을 집중적으로 보강하겠다"며 "갈수록 레이스가 좋아지고 있어 기분이 좋다"고 덧붙였다. (연합)
