Film sensation Zio Oh has been announced as Korea’s Mr. Calgary Stampede.

The actor and model who has appeared in 10 TV dramas and 6 movies will visit the Canadian city this summer to experience the 100-year old event for himself.

The Calgary Stampede is the world’s biggest rodeo, and celebrates the story of settlement on the Canadian frontier.

Just before the stampede was founded in 1912, Calgary had a population of 43,000. But the city has grown to more than 1.1 million people today, helping it to become Canada’s second-largest business center.

Korean companies present in Calgary include KNOC, Korea Exchange Bank and Korean Gas, and nearly 7,000 Korean-Canadians live in the city.

“Residents, friends and visitors from Korea contribute to a Calgary which is a global city, with connections to all parts of the world. Wherever you are from you will always get a welcoming ‘howdy’ in Calgary and be made to feel at home,” said Canadian Ambassador David Chatterson.

“As Mr. Oh will discover, there are few events that combine the drama of cowboy culture with the friendliness of the local population and the big city amenities, as does the stampede.”
