Kwak Seung-jun, chief of the Presidential Council for Future and Vision, on Tuesday denied allegations that he had received entertainment from CJ chairman Lee Jay-hyun in 2009 in return for business favors.

“I met Lee because we have been friends for 30 years. It was not business related and we enjoyed each other’s company. There was no inappropriate third party involved,” said Kwak, one of President Lee Myung-bak’s right-hand men.

The Seoul Shinmun newspaper reported that Kwak met the chairman of the media and retail industry group at expensive room saloons in southern Seoul several times to discuss media policies.

Some aspiring female entertainers signed to CJ’s entertainment division served them drinks, it said. The bills amounted to up to tens of millions of won per session, the newspaper reported.

The report was based on a police observation report secretly submitted to Cheong Wa Dae, it said.

CJ Group also dismissed the report as groundless.

Kwak threatened litigation against media for “unconfirmed rumors.”

곽승준, CJ랑 '연예인 대동 술자리' 부인


곽승준 대통령소속 미래기획위원장은 24일 지난 2009년 이재현 CJ그룹 회장으로부터 고급 룸살롱에서 여성 연예인을 대동한 향응을 수차례 받았다는 언론보도에 대해 "사실이 아니다"라고 강력히 부인했다.

곽 위원장은 이날 연합뉴스와의 통화에서 "이재현 회장과는 30년 지기인 절친한 사이로 사적으로 만나 술자리를 가졌을 뿐"이라며 "여성 연예인들을 불러 접대를 받은 적이 없다"고 말했다.

그는 또 6~7차례 술자리의 술값이 평균 수천만 원 대에 달했다는 의혹에 대해서 도 "비싼 술을 마시지 않는다. 전혀 사실이 아니다"라고 부인하고 "평소 술값은 내가 내기도 하고 이 회장이 내기도 한다"고 덧붙였다.

특히 그는 접대를 받았다는 의혹과 관련해 "내가 방송ㆍ미디어 정책에 관여한 적이 없는데 접대를 받을 이유가 뭐가 있느냐"면서 "친구와 사석에서 만났을 뿐"이 라고 강력히 부인했다.

곽 위원장은 이어 "근거조차 불명확한 보도로 명예훼손을 한 언론사에 대해서는 끝까지 행정적ㆍ법적 조치를 취해 책임을 물을 것"이라며 법적 대응 계획을 밝혔다.
