The National Police Agency promoted veteran actor Choi Bul-am on Wednesday to honorary senior superintendent.
Choi, 72, had been named an honorary superintendent when he starred in MBC drama “Crime Investigation Squad Captain” as the team leader roughly 35 years ago.
“The drama expressed the symbolic meaning of police investigations well,” said a police official.
“Although the drama first aired 41 years ago and was pulled off 23 years ago, if one were to pick a show that represents police, officers and citizens alike would shout out ‘Crime Investigation Squad Captain,’ said police commissioner Cho Hyun-oh during the promotion ceremony.
“I am very well aware of what a senior superintendent does and just how high that rank is,” said Choi. “I will work as a bridge of friendship between the public and the police.”
