Passengers overpower crazed Jet Blue pilot

Passengers and crew on a flight from New York to Las Vegas were forced to overpower the pilot Tuesday after he reportedly went berserk in mid-flight.

Jet Blue confirmed the unusual incident in a statement to The Globe News in Amarillo, Texas, where the airplane was landed by an off-duty captain who happened to be travelling on the flight.

"The pilot in command elected to divert to Amarillo, TX for a medical situation involving the Captain. Another Captain, traveling off duty, entered the flight deck prior to landing at Amarillo, and took over the duties of the ill Crewmember once on the ground," the airline was quoted as saying.

The report quoted passengers as saying that the captain spent along time in the bathroom and then emerged screaming 'Iraq, al-Qaeda, terrorism, we're all going down," before six to ten passengers subdued him. (DPA)

조종사, 비행중 정신병 발작..비상 착륙

미국 저가 항공사 제트 블루 여객기 조종사가 운항 도중 정신병 발작을 일으켜 날뛰자 승객으로 타고 있던 다른 조종사가 비상 착륙을 시키는 소동이 벌어졌다.

제트 블루 항공사는 27일 (현지시간) 뉴욕에서 라스베이거스로 가던 여객기 한 대가 조종사의 '건강 문제'로 텍사스 아마리요 공항에 비상 착륙했다고 밝혔다.

타고 있던 승객들에 따르면 여객기 조종사는 화장실에 한참 머물고 있다가 갑자기 "이라크, 알 카에다, 테러리즘, 우리는 추락하고 있다"고 소리치며 날뛰기 시작 했다.

놀란 승객들이 달려 들어 조종사를 제압했고 마침 휴가를 받아 비행기에 타고 있던 다른 조종사가 조종간을 잡고 아마리요 공항에 무사히 비행기를 착륙시켰다.

연방수사국(FBI)과 항공 당국이 자세한 사건 경위를 파악 중이다.
