Surge of former Roh aide makes it a three-way race

Moon Jae-in, an aide to late former President Roh Moo-hyun, excelled software guru Ahn Cheol-soo for the first time in a poll of potential presidential candidates.

The poll, released Tuesday by Ohmynews, a progressive online news outlet and conducted by local pollster Research View, showed Moon leading Ahn by 29.3-27.9 percent as the most suitable person to represent the liberal opposition in the presidential election at the end of the year.

In its previous survey, conducted in December, Ahn came out on top at 35.5 percent, while Moon garnered 22.2 percent.

The surge of Moon, former chief of staff to Roh and now head of a foundation named after the late liberal leader, had been shown in other polls released earlier. However, the latest poll is the first to find a rise of Moon beyond Ahn.

Political observers pointed out that while Moon managed to raise his profile through public activities including a TV talk show appearance last month, Ahn’s support has eroded due to his ambiguous position over whether or not he will run in the presidential election.

Ahn, currently a professor at Seoul National University, shot to political stardom last year, once topping all presidential hopefuls in popularity. However, he has denied having any plans to join politics.

Earlier this week, another local pollster Realmeter released results of its survey which showed a strong upward trend in Moon‘s popularity in recent weeks.

In the first three weeks of January, Moon’s support rate rose from 14.6 to 15.3 and to 17.5 percent, while that of Ahn changed from 25.8 percent to 28.1 percent and then down to 23.2 percent.

The polls found Rep. Park Geun-hye, chief of the ruling Grand National Party, was continuing to hold onto her lead among presidential hopefuls from both conservative and liberal sides.

Research View put Park at 35.4 percent, followed by Moon at 25.3 percent and Ahn at 22.7 percent.

민주통합당 문재인 상임고문의 대선후보 지지율 이 한 여론조사에서 안철수 서울대 융합과학기술대학원장을 오차범위 내에서 처음으 로 추월한 것으로 나타났다.

31일 오마이뉴스가 여론조사 전문업체 리서치뷰에 의뢰해 실시한 여론조사 결과 에 따르면 한나라당 박근혜 비상대책위원장의 지지율이 35.4%로 가장 높았다.

문 고문은 25.3%의 지지율을 보였고, 안 원장 22.7%로 나타났다.

직전인 12월 말 조사 때는 안 원장(30.3%), 박 비대위원장(29.7%), 문 고문(17.

2%) 순이었다. 한나라당 쇄신작업을 주도하고 있는 박 비대위원장이 수위로 치고 나 오고 문 고문이 오차범위 내에서 안 원장을 앞선 것이다.

이 조사는 설 연휴 이후인 지난 27~29일 전국 19세 이상 성인남녀 1천500명을 대상으로 임의전화걸기(RDD) 방식으로 실시됐으며, 신뢰도 95%, 표본오차 ±2.5%포인트다.

비록 오차범위 안이긴 하지만 문 고문의 지지율이 안 원장을 역전한 것은 이번이 처음이다.

문 고문은 진보진영 대선 후보군을 대상으로 한 조사에서도 29.3%의 지지율을 얻어 안 원장(27.9%)을 오차범위 내에서 추월한 것으로 조사됐다.

리서치뷰 안일원 대표는 "부산 출마로 승부수를 던진 문 고문 지지율이 급상승하고 있다"며 "안 원장이 지난 21일 여의도 정치와 거리를 두겠다는 취지의 발언을 한 이후 야권 성향 유권자들이 다시 문 고문을 주목하는 것 같다"고 말했다.

그러나 문 고문이 최근 여론조사에서 가파른 상승세를 타고 있는 것은 사실이지 만 안 원장을 확실히 추월했다고 보기에는 시기상조라는 신중론이 적지 않다.

리얼미터가 지난 25~27일 전국 유권자 2천250명을 대상으로 실시한 여론조사(신뢰도 95%, 표본오차 ±2.1%포인트)에서 안 원장과 문 고문의 지지율은 각각 23.2%, 17.4%로 격차가 좁혀지긴 했지만 안 원장이 우위를 유지했다.

동아일보가 지난 24일 전국 유권자 1천명을 대상으로 실시한 조사(신뢰도 95%, 표본오차 ±3.1%포인트)에서도 안 원장의 지지율은 22.2%로 문 고문(7.7%)을 크게 앞질렀다.

한국사회여론연구소(KSOI) 윤희웅 조사분석실장은 "문 고문이 안 원장을 역전했다고 단정하긴 이른 상황"이라며 "다만 문 고문은 총선 국면에서 추가 상승 여력이 있는 만큼 추이를 지켜볼 필요가 있다"고 말했다.
