A Spanish artist has created giant murals on the roofs of several Korean buildings. Santiago Morilla, from Madrid, created the large-scale artwork depicting semi-submerged people on top of buildings at the Gyeonggi Creation Center, where he is currently taking an artistic residency.

His exhibition “Water Beacons, a warning to navigators” is open to the public indefinitely at the center in the Danwon-gu area of Ansan.

His previous works include a rooftop art project for the Royal Spain Academy located in Rome, Italy, and a gardening project commissioned by the City of Madrid to transform crime-ridden districts into cultural spaces.

This latest project in Korea drew on influences from the local landscape and history to create the rooftop paintings.

Foreign artists Rizwan Mirza from the U.K., Constanza Piaggio from France, and Lao Hok Shing from Hong Kong also have temporary exhibitions at the center displaying the works which they created while on residency there. Their exhibitions will until Dec. 31.
