Hyundai Motor unveils revamped i30 hatchback

Hyundai Motor Co., the country’s largest automaker, will begin selling a revamped version of its i30 compact car this week to help the vehicle better compete against cars such as the Volkswagen Golf, the company said Thursday.

Hyundai Motor said it aims to sell 215,000 units of the i30 hatchback next year, including 25,000 units in domestic sales.

The revamped i30 comes with a 1.6-liter gasoline direct injection engine that generates 140 horsepower at its peak and has an average fuel mileage of 16.3 kilometers per liter.

The hatchback model is also equipped with a 1.6-liter diesel engine that produces 128 horsepower at its peak with a fuel efficiency of 20 kilometers per liter.

The new i30 is equipped with improved safety features, including seven airbags installed in all vehicle models and next generation vehicle dynamic control.

The new car is priced from 18.4 million won ($16,200) to 22 million won, depending on accessories and engine type.

Hyundai Motor spent a total of 200 billion won on developing the new i30 models.
