The U.S. Embassy is running an art exhibition of photographs never before seen in Korea by Edward Curtis, known for his pictures taken of the American West and Native Americans.

Titled “Sacred Legacy,” the exhibition displays 75 photographs and related materials on the lives of North American Indians in the early 1900s.

Alongside the exhibition is the documentary “Coming of Light” which examines Curtis’ life.

Curtis’ work on the last footsteps of the North American Indians provides an insight into their history and the early days of photography as an art form.

Curtis shows the last moments of these warriors in the face of the European settlers’ advance by focusing on their grief and agony. The exhibition runs until Oct. 11 at the Sejong Art Center.
