Police said Thursday they have launched a probe into a Seoul hospital over the death of the wife of the Thai ambassador in Seoul.

The wife of Thai Ambassador Chaiyong Satjipanon died on Monday, four days after she was admitted to Soon Chun Hyang University Hospital after complaining about an acute abdominal pain, said officers at Yongsan Police Station.

When her conditions suddenly deteriorated two days later at the hospital, she was transferred to an intensive care unit where she died, they said.

The Thai envoy asked police to probe the hospital, claiming that some mistakes might have led to his wife's death, police said.

Hospital officials reportedly denied any wrongdoing.
