Four found dead in apparent group suicide

Two men and two women were found dead in a studio apartment in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, on Thursday in an apparent group suicide.

The four people in their 20s seem to have inhaled toxic fumes after burning coal briquettes inside the room with all windows and doors sealed with plastic sheets, police said,

Their decayed bodies were found by the super at 3 p.m.

They left ID cards and suicide notes to their families dated July 8, police said.

Earlier this month, a man and a woman both in their 20s killed themselves in a car in Buan, North Jeolla Province.

They got acquainted with each other after joining a suicide website and exchanged mobile phone messages to plan their suicide, police said.

In June, two young men and two women were found dead in a car after they met through a suicide website.

구미서 집단자살 추정 20대 남녀 4명 발견

경북 구미에서 집단자살한 것으로 추정되는 20 대 남녀 4명의 시신이 발견돼 경찰이 수사에 나섰다.

11일 오후 3시께 구미시 구평동의 한 원룸에서 최모(27·서울 성동구)씨와 김모 (22·경남 양산)씨 등 남자 2명과 강모(29·여·경기 광명)씨와 장모(27·여·경남 창원)씨 등 여자 2명이 숨져 있는 것을 원룸 관리인이 발견해 경찰에 신고했다.

원룸 관리인 최모(29)씨는 "숨진 김씨가 지난달 5일에 월세로 계약하고서 월세 를 주지 않아 찾았다가 현관 입구에서 썩는 냄새가 나 신고했다"고 경찰조사에서 밝 혔다.

발견 당시 이들의 시신이 심하게 부패돼 있었고 창문이나 방문 틈을 테이프로 막고서 연탄을 피운 흔적이 있었다고 경찰은 전했다.

또 각자의 신분증과 함께 7월8일자로 가족에게 보내는 유서가 발견됐다.

경찰 한 관계자는 "4명은 특별한 공통점이 없고 유서에 개인빚 등 각자의 고민 을 써 놓았다"고 말했다.

경찰은 유서에 적힌 날짜 등으로 미뤄 7월 초에 동반자살한 것으로 보고 자세한 사건경위를 조사하고 있다.
