KARA to promote K-pop festival

Hallyu star girl group KARA has been appointed as PR ambassador for 2011 K-pop Cover Dance Festival, which begins its second round competition on Sept. 3.

The festival celebrates the “cover dance” videos that K-pop fans around the globe are currently submitting online through www.coverdance.org for the preliminary round of the competition. The cover dance refers to emulating of the original choreography of popular K-pop dances.

According to the Visit Korea Committee, more than 760 teams from 50 countries have already submitted their video entries so far.

The winners of the online competition will be invited to compete for the second round, which will be held in Seoul and foreign cities including L.A., Moscow, Tokyo, Bangkok and San Paulo.

The winners of the second round will then be given an opportunity to visit Korea and compete for the final competition in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province.

Anyone who competes in Gyeongju will be able to meet the K-pop artist of their cover dance, while the official winner of the final round will be given a chance to perform for Hallyu Dream Concert, which will be held in Gyeongju in October.

KARA, who will attend the official appointment ceremony on Wednesday at the Korea Press Center in central Seoul, will participate as judges for the festival’s second round competition in Tokyo on Sept. 11.

The five-member band has enjoyed great popularity in both Korea and Japan since their debut in 2007.

카라, 'K팝 커버댄스 페스티벌' 홍보대사


한국방문의해위원회(이하 방문의해)는 걸그룹 카라를 '한국방문의해기념 2011 K팝 커버댄스 페스티벌' 홍보대사로 위촉했다고 8일 말했다.  

방문의해는 "카라가 오는 10일 프레스센터에서 위촉패를 받고, 다음달 11일  도 쿄에서 열리는 일본 지역 본선에 심사위원으로 참가한다"고 전했다.  

'K팝 커버댄스 페스티벌'은 전 세계 K팝 커버 댄스 열풍이 한류 팬의 한국 방문으로 이어지도록 하자는 취지에서 열리는 행사다.   

다음달까지 '커버댄스 홈페이지(www.coverdance.org)에서 UCC 예선을 진행하며 , 다음달 3일 미국 로스앤젤레스를 시작으로 러시아 모스크바, 브라질 상파울루, 일 본 도쿄, 태국 방콕, 서울 등지에서 지역별 본선이 치러진다.  

지역 본선에서 선발된 각국 우수 참가자는 방문의해와 경주시가 10월3일 경주에 서 공동 주최하는 '한류 드림 페스티벌'에서 최종 결선을 치른다. 우승자에게는  같 은 날 경주에서 열리는 '한류 드림 콘서트' 무대에 오를 기회가 주어진다. (연합뉴스)
