An American nursing assistant had been charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault of a 93-year-old patient suffering from dementia.
Robert Phelan Jr., 56, was allegedly witnessed by another staff member while having inappropriate contact with the victim at Lexington Health Care, Illinois. Phelan had been working at the facility for less than two weeks.
Aggravated criminal sexual assault is referred to as a Class X felony, which can result in a sentence of six-to-30 years in prison, according to local reports.
His hearing was held at the Bridgeview courthouse, where the bail was set at $350,000.

간호 조무사, 93세 노인 성폭행한 혐의 체포
미국 일리노이州에 위치한 요양원에서 한 간호조무사가 93세 치매 환자를 성폭행한 혐의로 기소되었다.
올해 56세인 Robert Phelan Jr.씨는 Lexington Health Care 요양원에 입원한 93세의 노인과 “불건전한 접촉”을 하다 동료 직원이 이를 목격, 경찰에 신고하여 범행이 발각됐다.
환자를 성폭행할 경우 가중 처벌이 적용되어 이 남성은 최대 징역 30년까지 선고될 수 있다.
첫 공판은 지난 화요일에 열렸으며, 보석금 $350,000 (한화 3억7000만원)이 선고되었다.
