Senior adviser to Samsung Electronics Yun Jong-yong has been named the president of the National Intellectual Property Committee.
President Lee Myung-bak appointed Yun as the first head of the presidential committee on Wednesday.
The committee is expected to help prepare the nation for intellectual property conflicts worldwide and promote overall competitiveness of Korean companies.
Yun has played a leading role for the Korean electronics industry to succeed in the global market. His career includes stints as president and CEO of Samsung Electronics and president of the Korea Electronics Association and the National Academy of Engineering. He graduated from the engineering department of the Seoul National University and entered the Samsung Group in 1966.
