A Korean millionaire in the U.S. who made a public proposal through a matchmaking firm failed to find a partner because his wealth was concealed.
The construction businessman in his 40s, who had never been married, made a public proposal through Korean dating service Sunoo, last month.
The self-made man, surnamed Kim, graduated from an American university and has accumulated 50 billion won ($47 million) of assets, the company said.
A public proposal by a client worth more than 20 billion won ($19 million) usually attracts an average of 300 requests for a dating within three days, according to Sunoo.
However, Kim did not reveal his wealth in his profile because he wanted a person who would genuinely love him, not money.
He only received 15 requests in two weeks, even lower calls than the common prospective spouses get.
Kim failed to meet anyone and Sunoo has recently deleted his profile on the website.
“If he had revealed his assets, hundreds of women would have asked him out on a date. A rich man’s public proposal ended in vain,” said a consultant at Sunoo.

하지만 김씨는 여성들로부터 별다른 관심을 받지 못했다. 2주 동안 김씨와 만나보겠다고 한 여성은 불과 15명으로 일반인의 평균치인 30명의 절반 수준이다.
김씨는 선우에는 자신의 재산 규모를 알렸지만 공개 프러포즈에서는 밝히지 않았다. 선우측은 김씨에게 재산을 공개할 것을 권했으나 김씨는 ’내 재력과 관계없이 순수하게 날 좋아해줄 사람을 만나고 싶다‘며 거절했다.
결국 그는 15명 중 누구와도 만나지 못한 것으로 전해졌다. 선우는 홈페이지에 띄워놓았던 그의 사진과 기본 프로필을 최근 삭제했다.
선우 관계자는 13일 “재산 규모만 밝혔어도 수없이 많은 여성이 만남을 신청했을 것”이라며 “500억 자산가의 프러포즈가 허무하게 끝났다”고 말했다.
