Japan makes fastest ever computer

Marking a leap forward in computing technology, Japan has created the world’s fastest super computer, called “The K supercomputer,” according to the Daily Mail.

It is as fast as 1 million desktop PCs put together, performing eight quadrillion calculations per second.

It is the first time in seven years that Japan has held the title of having the world’s fastest machine. The previous title-holder was Chinese Tianhe-1A.

Developed by Fujitsu, at RIKEN Advanced Institute for Computational Science in Kobe, the K computer cost $1.2 billion.

With 672 cabinets of circuit boards and almost 70,000 processors, the K computer is expected to bring a breakthrough in fields such as global climate research, medicine, meteorology and disaster prevention.

K 컴퓨터에는 대략 7000개의 프로세서로 구성된 회로판이 672개의 캐비닛을 채우고 있다. 슈퍼 컴퓨터의 개발은 재난 방지 대책, 세계 기후 조사, 의학, 기상학과 같이 다양한 분야에서 돌파구를 찾을 것으로 기대된다.
