China is well known for its fakes, but the economic giant has unveiled plans to take imitations to a whole new level.
The latest plan is to copy an entire European town.
Chinese real estate company China Minmetal Corp has started a project to recreate the Austrian city of Hallstatt in Huizhou. A total of $900 million is to be invested in the project.
Included on the UNESCO World Heritage list for its magnificent scenery, Hallstatt is a beloved tourist attraction.
Officials of Hallstatt claimed that they were not aware of the clone town which started construction last April.
People involved in the project had made visits to Hallstatt frequently over the last few years to take pictures of every corner of the town. Some Austrians criticized how secretively the project was conducted.
Local citizens of Hallstatt show no deep concern about the new copycat itself, as nothing can perfectly imitate their own fabulous scenery and history.

유네스코 문화 유산에 등재될 정도로 아름다운 자연경관을 자랑하는 오스트리아 마을 할슈타트는 매년 수 많은 관광객들이 방문하는 명소이다. 중국 정부는 이를 노리고 관광객 유치를 위한 마을을 똑같이 만드는 것이다.
