ROME (AP) _ Lady Gaga sang a few bars of her smash hit ``Born This Way'' and demanded the end of discrimination against gays as she proclaimed herself a ``child of diversity'' at a gay pride rally Saturday night in the ancient Circus Maximus.

   The star, whose ``Born This Way'' album recently topped 1 million sales in a week, delighted tens of thousands of people at a brief concert in the vast field where the ancient Roman masses would gather for spectacles.

   Wearing a green wig, she played the piano and sang a few numbers. But she devoted much of her appearance after an annual European gay pride parade to denounce intolerance and discrimination against gays and transgender people. Among the places she cited was the Middle East, Poland, Russia and Lithuania.

   Lady Gaga told the crowd she is often asked ``How gay are you, Lady Gaga?''

   ``My answer is: 'I am a child of diversity.'''

   She also proudly cited her Italian roots _ saying she was really named Stefania Giovanna Angelina Germanotta.

   And she told fans her costume _ a sleek black top with one bare shoulder and billowing plaid skirt _ were from the last collection of Gianni Versace.


레이디 가가, 유럽 동성애 행사 출연

    (서울=연합뉴스) 임미나 기자 = 팝 스타 레이디 가가가 11일(현지 시간) 로마에 서 열린 동성애 행사인 '유럽 게이 프라이드 퍼레이드'에 출연, 동성애 인권을 옹호 했다고 AP통신 등 외신들이 보도했다.

    가가는 이날 밤 고대 로마의 원형경기장인 키르쿠스 막시무스에서 열린 게이 프 라이드 행사에 녹색 가발을 쓰고 출연해 자신의 최신 히트곡인 '본 디스 웨이(Born This Way)'를 비롯해 몇 곡을 불렀으나, 주로 동성애자와 트랜스젠더들에 대한 차별 과 불관용을 고발.비판하는 데 많은 시간을 할애했다.

    그는 "'너는 동성애자냐'는 질문을 종종 받는데 나는 다양성을 타고난 아이(chi ld of diversity) '라고 답한다"며 "이 자리에 있게 돼 영광이다"고 말했다.

    가가는 또 동성애에 대한 불관용으로 고통받는 많은 젊은 동성애자들이 자살과 자기혐오, 고립감에 빠지기 쉽다며 애통해했다.

    이 행사는 유럽의 여러 지역을 돌며 매년 한차례 열리는 행사로, 행사 주최  측은 동성애 차별에 대한 세계적인 관심을 끌기 위해 올해 레이디 가가를 초청한 것으로 알려졌다.
