Seoul will be presented as a role-model in environment-friendly traffic policy during the fourth C40 Cities Climate Conference in Brazil, officials said Tuesday.

During the three-day event, which begins Tuesday in Sao Paolo, Seoul officials will introduce the capital’s traffic policy, including the adoption of compressed natural gas buses and the bus rapid transit system.

Officials said the organizing committee of the C40 had requested Seoul City share its green programs with other cities working to lead adaptation to climate change.

During the conference, they also plan to arrange for marketing opportunities for small- and medium-sized Korean businesses engaged in 13 eco-friendly fields such as LED and recycling equipment.

“Ahead of the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics, Brazil is aggressively building up infrastructure such as roads and high-speed railways. The event will be a good opportunity for Korean companies to diversify their exporting regions,” a city official said.

Founded in 2005, C40 is a group of cities working to reduce carbon emissions and to better adapt to climate change.

Seoul hosted the third conference in May 2009.
