In an effort to commemorate the second anniversary of 2002 World Cup held in Daegu and the first anniversary of 2003 Daegu Summer Universiade game, Daegu will host the 58th National Athletics Championship at Daegu World Cup Stadium from June 9 to 10 for two days.

In the championship, hosted by the Korea Athletics Federation (KAF) and organized by the Daegu Athletics Federation(DAF), 450 athletes is supposed to participate from all over the country.

By hosting the event Daegu intends to boost city image, a city of athletics and raise an people interests on the athletics so that it could help to host 2009 World Athletics Championships in Daegu. Daegu showed its intention to make a bid for the 2009 event with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) on Jan. 26, 2004.
