With about 140 days to go the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011, officials and tech companies in Daegu are stepping up their efforts to establish a better IT network in a bid to enhance the city’s brand image by offering high-quality IT services during the international athletics event.

The Mobile Convergence Center in Daegu Technopark said on April 5 that its mobile business center and Daegu City will provide broadcasting, mobile communications and IT convergence services during the athletics event to be held in August.

In addition, a booth will be opened during this time in order to promote the IT technologies of the region and related high-tech products to visitors.

Daegu Technopark and Daegu City are also working out the details with related companies and governmental agencies to successfully demonstrate interactive digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) and IPTV 2.0 services.

Interactive DMB is a next-generation broadcasting service that will allow viewers to enjoy additional information while viewing TV programs. Through the service, viewers will be able to obtain information on players and game stats during international sporting events, Daegu Technopark said.

IPTV 2.0 is a convergence broadcasting service using wired and wireless networks, such as WiFi and WiBro, which enable the seamless transition between networks to provide reliable and high-definition images.

Such information on related news, broadcasting schedules, players and interviews will also be provided during the IAAF event. Through the network, civilians will be able to upload and share their videos featuring what is happening in and outside of stadiums.

“We plan to demonstrate state-of-the-art convergence broadcasting, mobile communications, and IT services to visitors from home and abroad,” Kim Woo-tae, the head of the mobile center, said. “With more differentiated IT services, we hope to contribute to the successful hosting of this athletics event and also actively use the occasion to enhance the recognition of the related industries in the global market.”
