About 1.5 civil servants are assaulted per day by citizens during working hours, a report showed Thursday.
The report released by lawmaker Kim Tae-won Thursday revealed that about 566 civil servants on average have been assaulted per year by people who came to file complaints. The number is a six year average from the year 2005 to 2010.
Those most attacked are police officers and fire fighters, who make up 76.2 percent of the total number of assaulted civil servants, followed by those in administrative and technical posts.
Lawmaker Kim Tae-won of public administration and security parliamentary panel said assaults are especially frequent against police officers, who are often assaulted by those who are drunk and make a disturbance at police stations.

직무수행 중 폭행을 당하는 공무원 수가 하루 평균 1.5명에 달하는 것으로 조사됐다.
국회 행정안전위 김태원(한나라당) 의원이 5일 행정안전부로부터 제출받은 자료 에 따르면 2005∼2010년 한해 평균 566명이 폭행을 당했다. 이는 하루 평균 1.5명에 이르는 것이다.
연도별 통계를 보면 2005년 530명, 2006년 508명, 2007년 660명, 2008년 530명, 2009년 508명, 2010년 660명이다.
지난해 직업별 현황을 보면 경찰직이 488명, 소방직이 15명으로 전체의 76.2％를 차지했고 일반직 11명, 교육직과 기능직이 각각 8명 순이었다.
김 의원은 “일선 공무원들이 민원인으로부터 폭행을 당하는 경우가 빈번하게 발 생하고 있다”며 “특히 술에 취해 난동을 부리는 민원인으로부터 피해를 보는 경찰이 많은 만큼 대책 마련이 시급하다”고 밝혔다.
