Three bodies found in northern Mexico grave

MONTERREY, Mexico (AFP) - Three mutilated bodies were found buried outside the city of Monterrey, officials said Sunday, bringing to at least 169 the number of victims recovered from mass graves in northern Mexico.

The three bodies found late Saturday were bound hand and foot and showed signs of torture, officials from the nearby town of Escobedo said.

Most of the bodies found so far were discovered in mass grave in the state of Tamaulipas.

Authorities have blamed the killings on the Zetas drug syndicate, among Mexico's most notorious, which last year kidnapped and slaughtered 73 immigrants from Central and South America on their way north to try to illegally cross into the United States.

Seven major drug gangs are operating in Mexico, and over 34,600 people have been killed since December 2006 in violence related to raging wars for control of smuggling routes and government efforts to stamp them out.

최근 멕시코에서 발생한 버스 관광객 살해 암매장 사건의 핵심 용의자가 당국에 검거됐다.

멕시코 해군당국은 동북부 타마울리파스주(州) 산 페르난도에서 발생한 암매장 사건의 핵심 용의자로 마약갱단 '로스 세타스'의 세포조직 두목인 오마르 에스트라 다 루나를 구금했다고 17일 밝혔다.

산 페르난도에서는 7일부터 일주일여간 납치됐다 살해된 것으로 보이는 버스 관 광객 시신 145구가 20여개 구덩이에서 암매장된 채 발견된 바 있다.

당국은 에스트라다 루나가 사건을 계획하고 지시한 인물로 보고 있으며 지난해 발생한 중미 출신 이민자 72명의 집단 학살에도 관여한 것으로 추정하고 있다.

마리아노 사이네스 해군 책임자는 트위터 글을 통해 에스트라다 루나가 지난해 8월 중미 이민자 72명을 학살한 혐의도 받고 있다고 강조했다.

에스트라다 루나는 16일 동료 조직원 5명과 함께 군당국에 체포됐다.

로스 세타스는 멕시코 최대 갱단으로 북부를 주요 근거지로 활동하다 당국의 단 속이 강화되자 멕시코 국경을 넘어 과테말라까지 진출한 것으로 알려져 있다.

멕시코에서는 4년 반에 가까운 '마약과의 전쟁'으로 지금까지 모두 3만4천600명 이 숨졌다.
