The new Noah’s Ark to be built in Netherlands

A Dutchman is building a life sized Noah’s Ark on the Maas River, and is expected finish in 2012.

He built a 1:5 scale replica of the ship in 2007, but this time, he is planning to build a full sized one.

If the boat is completed on time, it will go on a “world tour,” starting from London at time of the Summer Olympic Games.

Johan Huibers, dreamt of a massive flood in 1992, which he says was a “vision.”

“I saw the Netherlands disappearing under an enormous mass of water, comparable with the tsunami in Southeast Asia,” he told USA Today.

Huibers believes that the new ark will restore Christianity in the Netherlands, which has seen a decrease in the number of believers for decades.

한 네덜란드 남성이 2012년 완공을 목표로 실제 크기의 노아의 방주를 건립하고 있어 화제다.

요한 하위베르스 씨는 2005년부터 실제 크기의 1/5 정도의 방주를 제작하여 언론의 집중을 받은 바가 있다. 2007년에 완공한 그는 다시 완벽히 재현된 노아의 방주 제작에 들어갔다.

만약 목표대로 완성이 된다면 新노아의 방주는 2012년 런던 하계 올림픽과 시기를 맞추어 영국에서부터 “월드 투어”에 들어갈 예정이다.

하위베르스씨는 1992년 대형 홍수에 대한 꿈을 꾸었다. 그는 유에스에이 투데이와의 인터뷰에서 “네덜란드가 마치 동남아의 쓰나미가 일어난 것과 같이 바다 아래 가라 앉는 꿈을 꾸었다”고 주장했다. 그가 방주 제작을 결심한 것은 그 때부터이다.

기독교 인구가 지속적으로 감소하고 있는 추세에서, 하위베르스씨는 이를 계기로 다시 기독교가 부흥하기를 희망한다고 밝혔다.
