The Bible is to change certain expressions in the new American Bible, according to The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Some changes in the new translation of 2011 include changing “virgin,” into “young woman.”
Isaiah 7:14 “the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel,” will be using “the young woman” instead. It is because whether the original Hebrew world “almah” refers to an actual virgin is uncertain.
Other than those changes, “holocaust” will be “burnt offering,” “booty” will be “spoils of war,” and “cereal,” will be “grains.”
Milwaukee Richard Sklba, a retired auxiliary bishop, said that English was a “living language,” and thus a new translation is needed. Although the text is changed, the doctrine of the virgin birth of Jesus Christ still remains firmly.
The New American Bible Revised Edition is to be released on March 9, the USA Today reported.

은퇴한 보좌주교인 Milwaukee Richard Sklba씨는 영어는 ‘살아 있는 언어’라고 밝히면서 개역의 중요성을 강조하였다. 비록 단어 선택은 바뀌어도, 그리스도의 처녀 태생의 교리는 그대로 유지 될 것이라고 밝혔다.
新미국 성경 개역판은 오는 3월 9일 공식 출판될 예정이다.
