Buffett to visit Korea in March

Warren Buffett will visit South Korea in March to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for TaeguTec Ltd.’s second plant, which will double its production capacity.

According to TaeguTec, a Daegu-based firm that specializes in producing tungsten and industrial cutting tools, Buffett will visit the company for the ceremony on March 21.

As he did during his first visit to Korea in late 2007, Buffet will leave the same day.

TaeguTec became the first Korean firm to have stakes held by Buffett in 2006 when 80 percent of its parent firm IMC Group of Israel was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway.

First established in 1952 as the state-funded Korea Tungsten Co., Ltd., the company was privatized and incorporated into Keopyung Group in 1994. Following the group’s bankruptcy during the Asian financial crisis, the company was acquired by IMC in 1998. TaeguTec currently has operations in 25 countries.

대구텍은 버크셔 해서웨이에 편입된 이후 평균 두자릿수의 성장세를 이어왔으며 '제2의 성장기'를 기치로 지난해 새로 출시한 프리미엄군 브랜드 '골드러시' 제품을 연말 완공하는 제2공장을 풀라인으로 가동해 생산할 예정이다.

대구텍은 현재 세계 25개국에 지사를 두고 있으며 초경 절삭공구와 관련 산업제품 생산으로 세계적인 기술력을 인정받고 있다. (연합뉴스)
