LG Uplus, the country’s smallest mobile carrier, said Tuesday that it will officially begin providing mobile office support for small and mid-sized firms.

In a joint effort with Microsoft, the company will use the global firm’s software platforms and cloud services like Software as a Service in a bid to jump into the local mobile office market.



This comes after LG Uplus and Microsoft formed a strategic alliance last year to bring cloud computing services to the country’s small and medium-scale companies. The alliance is expected to offer next-generation services that are simple to install and use and give enterprise-class solutions and rich user experiences to those firms.

A service called “Uplus Groupware” will support Android-powered smartphones serviced by the nation’s three telecoms and also provide optimized services for Galaxy Tab, Samsung Electronics’ tablet PC to enhance the firms’ working environment, according to company officials.

The service will also enable easier downloading of document files and attachments to increase convenience, they added.

Company officials have claimed that combining Microsoft’s comprehensive set of cloud infrastructure and LG Uplus’ network services is expected to offer more ways of integrating businesses with access to the information they need while utilizing multiple devices.

“We project that the small and mid-size firms’ demand to increase over the introduction of information and communication technologies and the solution market to expand as well, which is why we launched the cloud computing service-based solutions,” said an LG Uplus official. “We will lead the smart work era by actively supporting the information and technology of such companies.”
