At the age of 13, Jordan Romero became the youngest person to reach the peak of Mount Everest in 2010.
Romero, now 14, is attempting another record-setting year for 2011.
His goal is to reach the peak of Mount Vinson, Antarctica’s highest point. If he succeeds, Romero will be the youngest person to climb the tallest mountain on each of the seven continents.
“I just wanted to do this at a young age and for that I feel really lucky,” Romero told AOL News.
“What I believe in is somebody climbing for the right reason and that’s for the experience, not for records,” Romero added.
Romero will launch the three-to-five-week expedition to Antarctica with his father Paul Romero, and his father’s girlfriend, Karen Lundgren. In 2006, the trio climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the starting point of their seven summits tour, reported AOL News.
Before Romero starts the expedition to Antarctica, he plans to climb the highest mountain in every state of United States as part of a campaign to encourage kids to exercise and enjoy outdoors.
Last year the Chinese government imposed a minimum age of 18 to get permission to climb on the Tibetan side of Mount Everest.
