KT Corp., the country’s biggest fixed-line operator, said that it will join the Asian branch of the International 3-D Society as the Korean chair Thursday.

With the goal of activating 3-D stereo-scopic image projects, the Asian branch will be joined by representatives from Korea, Japan and China, according to KT officials.

It will focus on activities like developing 3-D related technical education programs as a preparation step. The Asian committee is expected to launch later in April.

The International 3-D Society, which was created last year, has many prominent movie producing firms, such as DreamWorks, IMAX, Pixar and Walt Disney Studio, as its members.

Choi Doo-hwan, a president of the technical institution at KT, will serve as the vice chair of the Asian committee and the company will compose a Korean committee with firms, government agencies and schools in the related field, according to its officials.

KT, which was the first in the Internet protocol television industry to open a 3-D theater in May last year, has been contributing to activate the 3-D industry by providing 3-D contents through digital satellite broadcaster SkyLife.
