A Russian news report about three giant spaceships attacking Earth in 2012 has drawn attention from Korean domestic media and triggered online debate.

Pravda news said that Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) in the United States released a report which claimed that three giant spaceships are currently heading towards Earth. One of the spaceships is 240 kilometers wide, while the two others are smaller.

The news report claimed that the spaceships were detected by the HAARP search system, based in Alaska, which is designed to study the phenomenon of the Northern Lights.

There have been predictions about catastrophes the world may face in 2012 before, including the Armageddon and alien invasions. Some believe the report is reliable because the Mayan calendar indicates the year 2012 will see a world-changing event.

Others, however, doubt the credibility of the news report, saying that Pravda, the best-selling tabloid in Russia, often releases reports that haven’t been confirmed.

Twitter users questioned the speed of the giant spaceships, saying that with the technology to create a 240 kilometer-wide spaceship, they could reach Earth any time.
