LOS ANGELES (Yonhap News) ― Veteran Korean actress Kim Hye-ja was picked as the year’s best actress by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association on Sunday night for her role in “Mother.”
In the 36th annual LAFCA awards ceremony, the Korean drama directed by Bong Joon-ho was also named the runner-up for the best foreign-language film. That award went to “Carlos,” directed by Olivier Assayas of France.
Starring Won Bin as Kim’s on-screen son, “Mother” was produced in Seoul in 2009 but put on a limited release in the United States this past year.
The Facebook drama “The Social Network” was named the year’s best picture, while the best-actor prize went to Colin Firth for “The King’s Speech.”
The LAFCA is an organization of film critics working in the media in Los Angeles.
