Bus falls off Incheon Bridge, killing 12 people

A tourist bus carrying 24 passengers fell off an elevated motorway near Incheon Bridge, some 30 kilometers west of Seoul, killing 12 on Saturday afternoon.

The bus which was heading to Yeongjong Island from Songdo fell into the ground about 10 meters below the motorway at 1:20 p.m., according to reports.

The accident killed 12 and injured 12, reports said quoting local police and the rescue team, as of 4:00 p.m. Some injured passengers are in critical condition, they added. 

The bus, owned by a tourism agency, was trying to avoid a stalled vehicle on the bridge and then crashed into the guardrail, reports said.

Bodies of the 12 dead were moved to nearby hospitals.

Incheon Bridge links Songdo, a part of Incheon Free Economic Zone, to Incheon International Airport. The bridge was opened to traffic in October.
