A Korean exchange student in Irkutsk, Russia was beaten to death by local youths earlier in the week, the Korean consulate in the Siberian city confirmed Friday, according to Yonhap News.
The consulate said the 22-year-old male student from Gwangju, about 320 kilometers south of Seoul, was attacked by three youths with knives on Monday. He was taken to a nearby hospital unconscious but succumbed to wounds on Thursday.
The victim, identified only by his family name Kang, was attending a local teachers university. A female Korean student who was also attacked suffered only minor injuries.
