Global women`s forum underway in Seoul

An international forum on a wide range of women`s issues will take place from today through Saturday in Seoul.
The 2nd Metropolis Women International Network Forum, co-hosted by Seoul Metropolitan Government and Metropolis Women International Network, will be at Shilla Hotel with numerous presentations and workshops on key issues facing women worldwide.
The forum is expected to bring together some 500 people, including representatives from 104 Metropolis member cities, NGO activists, experts from international organizations and academics. The first forum took place in 2007 in Brussels, Belgium.
Among the participants are U.N. Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, Chore, Paraguay`s Mayor Elida Enilda Mareco de Ortiz, Concepcion, Chile`s Mayor Jacqueline Van Rysselbergue Herrera, Tabaco, Philippines` Mayor Krisel Lagman-Luistro and Central Jakarta, Indonesia`s Mayor Sylviana Murni.
Under the main theme of "Dynamic Cities Need Women - Visions and Challenges for a Women-Friendly City," the forum will enable participants to engage in in-depth talks on various issues such as women`s political representation, economic empowerment, establishment of a safe city for women and measures to stop violence against them.
The MWIN is an organization under Metropolis, an association of cities around the world which have a population of more than 1 million. Member cities of Metropolis include Seoul, Paris and London.
