Rugby teams from Korea and Hong Kong will collide on Aug. 29 at the Jamwon pitch, central Seoul. The Seoul Survivors (men), the Seoul Sisters (women), and the Colts (youth) will play the respective three teams from the City Rugby Football Club in Hong Kong.
"I`m happy with the convenient location by the Han River in Apugjeong. It`s going to be a great day for rugby in Korea and for all of Asia. I`m also really excited to face some stiff competition from this team," said Seoul Sisters` club secretary Fiona Cutler.
Hong Kong`s City Rugby Football Club comes to Seoul with an impressive resume. Both the men`s and women`s teams have won several championships throughout Asia since their inception in 2000.
The women will play a game of tens - which means that each team will play with 10 women on the field. This is in contrast to the men, who will play with 15 players on each team.
"Ten`s is faster paced than fifteens. There should be ample opportunity for this to be a high scoring game. This is our first tens game of the year, so we are really ready to go in and score with a vengeance," explained Carla Nelmes.
The Seoul Sisters have just come off a loss against Japan. "I think we have a great shot at winning. Practices have been really focused and we have a great group of dedicated girls," Mel Cherry said.
The men`s team also comes into this game after losing a match in Manila.
"We played well with a weak team in Manila. The location is so convenient for this game, we will be able to put together a strong team," said member Tim O`Connor.
This is the first time the three Seoul rugby clubs have collaborated to play other teams in Asia on the same day. Amanda Joyce, the Seoul Sisters club president said, it has been a lot of fun working with the Seoul Survivors.
During the breaks between games, prizes from sponsors will be raffled off.
One sponsor, Johnson and Johnson, will bring a mammography truck to provide breast cancer screening. A pre-game party will take place on Friday night at Hollywood Grill in Itaewon. Dinner and drinks after the games will take place at Scrooge Pub and Dickens Lounge in Itaewon.
