Government defends cost of nuclear submarines to protect trade routes

The Defence Minister Richard Marles has defended the AUKUS nuclear submarines pact as necessary to defending Australia's northern trade routes. Mr Marles also says Australia made no promises to the US that Australia would support it in any future conflict over Taiwan in exchange for American nuclear submarines.
