POSCO said yesterday it has completed construction of a second steel processing plant in India and a third plant in Thailand to meet rising demand from global automobile and electronics companies located there.

The world`s fourth-largest steelmaker said the new plants are capable of producing 120,000 tons of processed steel a year.

"The new plants are different from existing ones in that they can cut the size of steel products according to the needs of clients," a POSCO official said.

POSCO-India Pune Processing Center, a subsidiary of POSCO in Pune in India, built the first steel processing center in 2006 to meet the demand for electrical sheets. The second plant is to process steel for automobiles, home appliances and heavy industry companies, POSCO said.
