Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., a unit of state-run Korea Electric Power Corp., yesterday resumed operations at its nuclear power plant at Yeonggwang after a mechanical fault prompted a shutdown.

The company restarted the 1,000-megawatt reactor around 5:40 a.m. yesterday, said Choi Yong-jin, a company spokesman. No radiation leaked from the plant, he said.

The power plant, 322 kilometers (200 miles) south of Seoul, stopped operating Dec. 6. South Korea has 20 nuclear power stations, which account for almost 40 percent of the country?Ψs electricity supply. (Bloomberg)
